Summer Roundup: Torino, Ruschp, Miller, McMullen, Droege
An important chairlift at the 2006 Winter Games in Torino will be ready to roll in December, two months before the games begin. The lift begins in Sestriere, just a few hundred yards from the athlete village there, and rises to the top of San Sicario, the ski area where the women’s downhill and super G will take place. The construction was partly held up by red tape; had it not been built, the women’s speed skiers would have had to go by road.
Peter Ruschp, a beloved figure in the Vermont ski racing scene, passed away on Tuesday. The Burlington Free Press has this obituary. ‘It’s a loss to everybody in skiing’ says Chip LaCasse. Memorial services will be at Stowe Mountain resort on Saturday.
Bode Miller will play Guillermo Vilas in at the Sugarbush Health and Racquet Club in Vermont this Saturday.
Were you wondering what ever happened to Bobby McMullen? Here is your answer.
The winner of Ski Racing editorial survey sweepstakes is John Droege! Congratulations to him, and thanks to everyone for their feedback. All 1,328 of you.
