BEWI SnowSports Expo in Denver
Skis, boots, goggles, coats, season passes, resort info and deals, chiropractic sessions, USST athletes and of course, Ski Racing Magazine everything you could ever want in the ski industry in one place. That’s what the BEWI SnowSports Expo in Denver offered last weekend, November 5-7. If that wasn’t enough, the expo also included trampoline shows, a bar, lift ticket giveaways and constant raffle opportunities.
Our own Ski Racing tent paired with U.S. Ski Team Authentics apparel to sell subscriptions, US ski team hats and shirts. Aid from the companies helped make it possible to offer raffles of free Rossignol skis, Giro helmets, Smartwool socks and a trip to Aspen. USST athletes Toby Dawson, Chris Klug, Sarah Schleper and Lindsey Kildow stopped by to sign autographs and chat with fans (and give away free socks).
If you missed it this weekend, as well as the other expos that have already happened in New York, Portland and Hartford, fret not. Seattle hosts one next weekend, November 12-14, and East Coasters should keep an eye out for the Ski Racing tent at the four day expo extravaganza in Boston on November 18-21.
Criteria set for Rocky Mountain’s Automatics
In order to create easier access for men to achieve automatic status for the Rocky Mountain Trophy Series, the division has sent out information about the proposal that passed at the ACC meeting in October. The point criteria will use last season’s cutoffs for three categories:
Senior, 70 USSA points or lower;
J1, 90 points or lower,
J2, 110 points or lower.
Each Smartwool series race will advance either one, two or three men, and either one or two women, to the next Rocky Mountain Trophy Series race, depending on when in the year it takes place. These qualifiers from the Smartwool series will be skiers who are not automatics to the RMTS already.
NorAms scheduled for Jackson, Wyoming
Two NorAm men’s slaloms are set for Sunday and Monday, November 21 and 22. A good portion of the U.S. Ski Team will be on hand for the races at Snow King, weather permitting. -press release

CIBC and ACA present Lake Louise parties
To celebrate the presentation of the 2004 CIBC Lake Louise Winterstart World Cup schedule of events, ACA has announced the addition of new off-snow festivals to be held at Lake Louise during the World Cup race series.
Among the highly anticipated events to be held at the CIBC Lake Louise Winterstart World Cup are the Calgary Stampede’s Barn Burner parties scheduled for November 26 and 27 and open to visitors 18 and older. The Stampede nights promise to bring their famous Western hospitality to the thousands of guests visiting the World Cup site.
All members of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team will be in attendance to celebrate the announcement of the CIBC Lake Louise Winterstart World Cup events and to inaugurate the launch of the 2004-2005 ski racing season.
For the first time, the World Cup speed race circuit kick starts in Lake Louise. The men will lead with a downhill on November 27 and a super G on November 28. The women will race the following weekend with two downhills on December 3 and 4, and a super G on December 5. For this series of races, on-site viewing areas will be reserved at the base of the ski hill for the general public wishing to cheer on Canada’s elite racers. -press release
